Community paediatrics

The community paediatric service provides a secondary service for children referred from primary care, hospital and community health professionals, schools and the local education authority when there are concerns about a child’s development, behaviour or educational needs.

Community paediatrics in Lincolnshire is part of a combined children’s service provided by United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

We provide community paediatric service for the whole county. We are based in Lincoln, Grantham and Boston but we also deliver clinics outside these bases.

The service is an outpatient service and we see children with problems relevant to community paediatrics including the following:

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Autistic spectrum disorder
  • Developmental delay
  • Cerebral palsy

We also provide clinics in special schools. We also provide an on-call service for ‘sudden deaths in infancy and childhood’ and two consultants are medical advisors for adoption in Lincolnshire.

We have close links with GPs, schools and hospital paediatricians. There is a single point of access where referrals are seen by both the community paediatric and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team.
