This month we’re focussing on opportunities currently available at Pilgrim hospital.
Staff nurse (band 5), ward 6B
The team on 6B look after elderly males (over 75), with multiple complex care needs, who are admitted from the hospital’s acute medical unit.
The ward has 28 beds and caters for patients who are frequently acutely unwell. The team is looking for a dedicated and compassionate nurse who has knowledge and a passion for caring for older people. Good communication skills and being able to speak up for patients and their concerns and beliefs are all essential qualities
The successful candidate will be supported through an education programme designed by the elderly care clinical educator and senior nursing team on the ward and will be allocated a supervisor to offer support. They will also be expected to act as a shift coordinator when needed.

Specialty doctor in paediatrics
Pilgrim’s paediatric department is looking for a new doctor to cover general and neonate middle grade duties.
The role will be for one year initially but with possibility of extension for the right candidate and include a working pattern of 1:8 full shift rota.
The recently refurbished paediatric unit has 24 beds, with maternity comprising 32 ante-natal and post-natal beds. The special care baby unit (on the same floor as paediatrics) has eight cots and there is also a transitional care unit containing four cots.
