Two new nurses have joined the A&E team at Lincoln County Hospital after starting their careers in London.
Jessica Coleman, 24, and Ricardo Gamez, 31, both recently joined the accident and emergency department at Lincoln County Hospital after beginning their careers in the capital.
Jessica and Ricardo completed their training at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London but didn’t meet until they both joined the same department in Lincoln.
Kings College Hospital has one of the busiest A&E departments in the country, and features in Channel 4’s 24 Hours in A&E. Having worked in the capital, they made their way to the county for a slower way of life and a chance to use their experience in London to further improve care in Lincolnshire’s Hospitals.
Jessica said, “I am originally from Lincolnshire. It is really homely and there is a lot of support here. My family are right around the corner and I feel like I have more chance of career progression here. Everyone has been so welcoming.”
Ricardo, originally from Spain, said, “Lincolnshire has got a better work-life balance for me. It is so lovely and has really good vibes. I can gain a lot of experience here and improve my knowledge and skills further. I feel I have a future here.”
Jessica and Ricardo hope to be able to progress in their careers at Lincoln County Hospital with help from their supportive colleagues and the Trust to become the leaders of the future.
Karen Hansord, A&E sister said, “We are very pleased to have appointed both Jessica and Ricardo to the team in Lincoln A&E. They bring different skills and experiences from their previous posts in London which complements and enhances the current nursing team. We are looking forward to developing their skills and experience in caring for patients attending the A&E department at Lincoln hospital.”
The Trust is currently undertaking a comprehensive recruitment drive to attract new members of nursing staff to the Trust. This has been in the UK and overseas and we have achieved great successes so far, with 90 UK newly qualified nurses coming to join us.
