A mobile unit that provides a free breast screening service to women 50 years of age and over is due to arrive in Market Rasen at the end of April.
The mobile screening unit, run by the Lincolnshire Breast Screening
Service will be situated in the car park at the Festival Hall in Market Rasen. It will remain there for approximately 8 – 10 weeks.
The screening service will be automatically inviting ladies registered with the Market Rasen and Binbrook GP practices to attend an appointment at the mobile unit.
Ladies from the Caistor area who were invited in 2015 who were unable to attend for screening are welcome to contact us to attend for screening in Market Rasen.
Ladies aged between 50 and 70 from these practices will be automatically invited for screening. Ladies aged 71 years and over who would like to be screened are welcome to ring the administration office to make an appointment at their convenience on 01522 573999.
The Lincolnshire Breast Screening Service has started the national Age Extension Pilot Scheme where a random selection of women aged from 47 to 49 years or 71 to 73 years from practices will be automatically invited for screening.
Screening Office Manager, Alysa Page, from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Early detection of breast cancer is crucial in improving a woman’s prognosis and so we strongly encourage women to attend a breast screening session.
“Little is known about how to prevent breast cancer, but the earlier it is found the better the chance for successful treatment. One in 12 women over 50 will be affected by breast cancer and our mobile screening service is part of the work we are doing to reduce this life threatening disease.”
The mobile service tours the county on a regular basis, but only visits one area at a time and appointments must be made to use the service.
